The law of attraction has become a very popular (and controversial) topic in the last few years. Probably one more piece of opinion on the web about it will not make much of a difference, but I have found myself living by its principles for quite some time without much resistance.
The mysticism created around the idea of the law of attraction has brought some confusion to the concept and we humans tend to react very predictably when faced with confusing ideas: we might rationalize it and transform it until it resembles to something we currently understand, even when the core of the idea does not make much real sense anymore, or we might condemn it and discard it.
With the law of attraction both things have happened. Some people have understood the law of attraction as a recipe for successful laziness, unfortunately for them, such thing does not exist and others just see the whole topic as a mumbo jumbo new age thing.
Simply put, the law of attraction states that we draw into ourselves that which’s vibration matched the vibration we hold on a given moment. We must understand that everything in our universe is composed of vibration. Matter looks and feels different only because it vibrates to different speeds. However, the fact that we have recognized a spectrum of vibrational speed that compose that which we acknowledged as matter, does not mean that everything which is not matter, does not hold a vibrational speed as well.
Emotion Over Matter
The vibrational speed of our emotions is outside of the spectrum of speed that it is perceived as matter, but it is very real and very relevant to our lives. The vibrations emitted by our emotions are actually the most important ones in the creative process, as these are the whole of our reality.
At some point in the history of human thinking we got into the deviated idea that our emotions are the consequences of material circumstances; therefore, we though, in order to feel good, we must manipulate our material world. That, of course, has not been a very successful approach to reality and it is, at least, a very unproductive one.
The reason to the failure of the “matter over emotion” approach is simply that matter by itself has absolutely no direct effect over our emotions. In other word, our emotions are by no means the consequences of our material circumstances, simply because matter is a direct byproduct of our emotional vibrational state and not the other way around.
By the time our material circumstances have become negative, our emotional vibrational state must have been negative for quite some time and it has only attracted unto us the material reality that matches with the emotional vibration released. Emotions are the factory where reality is built.
To understand this is vital in order to understand the law of attraction.
Thoughts as a Tool for Emotional Tuning
Another common misconception is that our thoughts are the ones that create our physical reality. Our thoughts might hold a vibration itself, but the potency of its vibration is little in comparison with the strength of the vibration emitted by our emotions. Nevertheless, the importance of our thoughts in the creative process is significant.
Our thoughts can greatly influence our emotions. We might not be able to create reality only by thinking about that new Ferrari, but the thought of driving a shiny new car sure can make us feel good, and this has always been a step in the right direction. Here is where many people get confused and therefore fail to apply successfully the law of attraction, concluding it has to be one big fraud.
Thought Does Not Create Reality; Emotion Does
The reason for this misconception is simply that controlling your thoughts might be difficult, but is easier that controlling your emotions. Visualizations and daily affirmations can be great to control your thoughts for a given (usually short) period of time, but has little or no effect over your deepest emotions and over your reality.
Our thoughts, however, are influenced by our perception of reality. When we cannot do other thing that think about that pile of unpaid bills, the influence of this pattern of thinking will make us feel terrible and the vibration released by our negative emotion will not do another thing that to reinforce our negative reality. The events attracted by the vibration released because of the negative emotions will have to match such emotions. Soon our days will be filled with events that remind us our powerlessness, inadequacies or failure, making us think constantly about it and therefore feel worse and worse every time. A negative loop very well illustrated by what it is understood as depression.
But unlike emotion, thoughts are subjective and the perk of subjectivism is that we can find traits of positive aspects even in the worst scenario possible and this way we can change how we see the world, even when the world we see has no change at all.
If we find the way to focus our thinking on the positive aspect of our lives, nothing but positive emotions will emanate from us and the reality created by its vibration will have to match it. Soon every aspect of our lives will be full of positive circumstances that will reinforce the positive momentum.
Content Creation
The other very important use of thoughts in the creative process is the shaping of our physical circumstances. A thought by itself has no effect on our reality, but focusing our thoughts allows us to shape the way reality is created by our emotions.
Emotions might be responsible for the creation of the circumstances that reinforce our positive momentum, but our thoughts are the ones that decided the best way to materialize such circumstances. In other word, positive emotional vibration means that positive circumstances must materialize in order to match the vibration released, thoughts commands that said circumstances materialized as a brand new red Ferrari or a fulfilling relationship with a partner.
Negative emotions release the negative vibration, which cannot have another result that to attract negative experiences.
For these reasons I believe that in order to understand fully the law of attraction, we must begin by understanding the effects our emotions and our thoughts on our daily lives. Only then we can use it to our advantage and to our personal development as human beings.

The topic of: “The Law of Attraction” in and of itself has been a hot topic, like you said, for quite a while. I believe the reason why so many have such a tough time with it is because many times the concept has been manipulated to draw people to follow certain methods that aren’t quite so healthy. Off the top of my head I’m not able to give an example since I quit following this concept all together to avoid the manipulators. I like this quote: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction,” Newton said. I know it’s associated with the law of motion, but it applies here as well. Just like Karma; what goes around comes around. If people would stop trying to manipulate their environment and the people around them life would work fine. If that makes sense. I appreciate your honesty and clarity here.
I believe that one of the biggest misconceptions about the law of attraction is that some people think it can be resumed as wishful thinking. I understand were this idea comes from but it is completely wrong.
To take action towards your intentions is a fundamental principle of the law of attraction. Visualization and positive affirmations are tools you can use to clarify your intentions and to explore the adequate ways to take action but are in no way enough by itself. Actually, there is no need to visualize your intentions if you do not feel the need for it.
Of course, the most popular approach has been the idea that you can get everything you want by think about it from you couch. No wonder why so many people get discouraged when nothing happens.
The thing I don’t like is the way the method is exploited.
Thank you for following my “Weaving the Magic Thread” blog. I hope that you will continue to enjoy it. I like what you have expressed here, and will be back soon to read through more of what you have written. It’s a good thing to separate emotion from thought, for it is how we truly feel about things that manifest the energy we embody.
Very interesting read because I’m working on a chapter in my novel where my character is using the law of attraction.
Thanks for checking out my blog at http://runwright.net. I love meeting new people through it.
Best wishes with the novel!

well said. Facebooked it along!
I enjoyed reading your blog post on the Law of Attraction very much, because you bring out one very integral and important point about emotion! That is key to everything in your life. You “feel” certain ways about people, places and things, and what you feel about that thing, is what you get the most of; I believe. Even on my “Belief Board”, the words express emotion about how I want to feel in my life, evoking that feeling whenever I look at it, reminding me that, yes, “feeling happy” is how I want to feel, “feeling successful”, “feeling complete and at peace”, etc. takes me to that place of feeling, which impacts other things that bring about what I want. You do have to be a vibrational match to the thing that you want to manifest, and this is a very foreign concept to someone who plays by the typical rules we have been given to live by. Whatever vibration you are at, whether you are a negative person, or a positive person, life matches situations, people and circumstances to that vibration. So, feeling the things you want to feel like and attract can be tough to keep up at times, but when you find that you have drifted into negative spaces, you have to consciously put yourself back into that positive frame of mind. Good work GoodVader!
Finding this was a perfectly timed reminder for me. Thank you for writing your thoughts on this!
